Trinity ran for the exit, her footsteps sure despite the slipperiness of the pavement. The city was old and was full of little alleys and dead ends. The rain was coming in fits and starts, as if it couldn’t decide whether it wanted to commit to a full-on shower .
Get to the exit. Get to the exit
They’d been attempting to contact a potential, but somehow, agents got wind of them and had split up the crew. She just hoped Switch and Apoc were okay. No doubt Morpheus would be able to handle himself, but she couldn’t help but worry.
She took a sharp left into a deserted alleyway, and nearly skidded into the wall. A dark figure plummeted down from a ledge, landing right in front of her. Blue eyes flashed in the darkness and a pair of sinister white fangs glinted in the light from the streetlamp. PVC creaked as the figure lunged at her, mouth gaping.
Trinity sidestepped easily, coat twirling behind her. Her opponent stopped and turned around, hissing ferally. Trinity regarded the wicked-looking fangs coolly. ‘That’s a nice trick,’ she thought. Her attacker hissed again. ‘If that was supposed to be intimidating, it failed miserably.’ She’d already seen too many agents to be put off by a fancy pair of fangs. She made a quick mental note to have Tank investigate this rogue program.
The jangling sound of a ringing phone interrupted the night.
She turned and made for the exit, but the stranger jumped over her and landed
in her way. In the light, she saw a pale, pointed face and blue eyes that
glinted in determination. Left with no other choice, Trinity assumed a fighting
stance. She felt her mind go steel- hard and cold and calculating.
Selene watched the other woman. She looked wary-and dangerous. Almost catlike. She had underestimated this stranger as nothing more than a drunk gothette wandering the streets on the way home from a club. Only those drunk, high or stoned frequented this alleyway. She was feeling hungry, and no one would ever know. One could only drink so much cloned blood before it began to all taste the same. Though it looked like she had attempted to bite off rather more than she could chew. The potential snack observed her casually, waiting for her to make the first move. She briefly considered running away, but her pride held her in place. Impatient and fed up, she lunged again.
Trinity smirked to herself as her opponent attacked. She could sense the other’s frustration and planned to fully exploit it. She kicked out, hitting the vampire program on the shoulder.
Selene stumbled back and snarled, leaping in again. She trapped the would-be victim against the wall. Underestimated indeed. The woman smelled oddly of gel and sweat and old fear. And something else entirely. It wasn’t an unpleasant smell. The woman’s curves showed through the PVC of her outfit and her eyes looked immortal-blue in the thin light. ‘Pity,’ Selene thought, and leaned in to bite her pale neck.
Trinity allowed herself to be caught. The vampire breathed in deeply and leaned into her neck to bite her. As she felt the vampire’s body relax she jumped, muscles straining against the weight.
Not real not real. Free your mind, Trinity
She flipped over her attacker’s head, landing on the other side of the narrow alley. Before the other woman could recover, she leapt up and kicked. The vampire thumped against the wall, hitting her head. She crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
Trinity immediately turned from the program and ran towards the phone booth. As the world dripped away like the drizzling rain, she wondered at the oddness of the encounter.

In the alley, Selene awoke to misting rain and a pounding headache. Her memory was a little hazy. Another wave of pain pulsated through her head, bringing memory with it. Who the hell was that woman? Selene would have written it off for a dream, except that she never woke in dark, rainy alleys with a headache. She blushed in the darkness, but let out a small sigh of relief. No one had witnessed her embarrassing defeat. By a human too. No one had to know if she didn’t tell them. Wearily, she picked herself up off the ground and walked away as confidently as she could. There would be other fights, no doubt.
